What Happens (Spoilers)

The story of Supergirl begins on the doomed planet Krypton. Scientist Zor-El and his wife Alura manage to save Argo City by using a force field just before Krypton explodes. Eight years later, their daughter Kara is born. However, a mineral called "Kryptonite" is discovered, slowly poisoning the citizens of Argo City. After Alura tragically dies from Kryptonite poisoning, Zor-El sends young Kara and her dog, Krypto, to Earth. There, she's met by her cousin, Kal-El, who we know as Clark Kent and Superman. Kara starts to adjust to her new life, eventually becoming Supergirl.

Fast forward to the present, Kara is celebrating her 23rd birthday by travelling and partying across different planets with Krypto. Superman often calls, worried about her constant off-world adventures. On the planet Holzherr, Kara meets Ruthye Marye Knoll, whose family was killed by a bandit leader named Krem of the Yellow Hills. Ruthye wants Kara's help for revenge, but Kara refuses. Krem then hijacks Kara's ship, and Krypto gets shot with a poisonous dart while trying to stop them. With Krypto having only three days to live, Kara decides to pursue Krem for an antidote, reluctantly bringing Ruthye along.

After a brief fight with space pirates called the Sklarian Raiders, Kara learns Krem's location on the planet Bilquis. There, she and Ruthye meet a local couple, Bomar and Mareck, who reveal that the Brigands are kidnapping young women to force them into marriage. Mareck tries to drug Kara to trade her and Ruthye for their daughter, Sarna, but Kara fights back. She's helped by Lobo, a bounty hunter targeting Krem's lieutenant, Drom Baxton. During the battle, Kara stops Ruthye from killing Krem, allowing him to escape after he kills Bomar and his family. Feeling guilty, Kara decides to go after Krem alone, heading to the Brigands' location on Barenton. However, the planet's green sun weakens her, and Ruthye, who secretly followed, tends to her.

Ruthye is later kidnapped by the Brigands and imprisoned on their ship, where Lobo is also held. Ruthye escapes her cell and frees Lobo, but is caught by Krem topside. Luckily, Kara, now recovered thanks to the planet rotating to a yellow sun and donning her Supergirl suit, saves her. With Lobo's help, Supergirl defeats the Brigands and frees the captive women. She tries to convince Ruthye not to kill Krem, explaining it won't ease her pain. As Ruthye walks away, Supergirl picks up her sword and kills Krem herself. She gets the antidote and saves Krypto just in time. Later, Supergirl invites Ruthye to celebrate the rest of her birthday week. Some time after, Supergirl reunites with Superman on Earth, expressing her desire to stay long-term, finally calling Earth her home.
