What Happens (Spoilers)

Sree, an IT employee living in Chennai with his parents, is smitten with Sindhuja, a spirited woman who works in the office across from his. When Sindhuja joins Sree's company, she invites him to a club. There, Sree is surprised to find her drinking, swearing, and being a complete party girl. He also learns that Sindhuja doesn't know her birthday because her mother, who knew it, passed away when Sindhuja was very young. Despite their differences, they become good friends, and Sree's crush deepens into love.

One day, Sree and Sindhuja get stuck in an elevator and share an impulsive kiss. Sindhuja then takes Sree home, and they have sex. Afterwards, Sree confesses his love, but Sindhuja shocks him by rejecting his feelings, insisting they are just friends and calling their intimacy a casual act. Disgusted, Sree leaves. Sindhuja tries to make amends, and Sree eventually agrees to resume their friendship. At a party, Sindhuja tries to get intimate with a drunk Sree, but he gets angry, accusing her of using him and criticizing her character. He also reveals their past sexual encounter to everyone, infuriating Sindhuja. She then confesses her love for Sree but is disheartened by his behavior, ending the party on a sour note.

Sree seeks help from his tailor, Thangaraj, and colleague, Satish, to reconcile with Sindhuja. He joins dance classes taught by Sindhuja's father, and they eventually patch things up. Following Sindhuja's wish, they decide to have a live-in relationship, keeping it secret from Sree's parents, who would disapprove. Sree devises a plan to hide their relationship from his parents and moves into a rented house nearby with Sindhuja. While Sindhuja becomes somewhat aggressive, Sree tries to keep their relationship stable. One moody night, Sree takes Sindhuja out and surprises her by revealing it's her birthday, which he painstakingly discovered. Sindhuja is deeply moved, and her aggressiveness subsides.

Sree consistently tries to convince Sindhuja to marry him, but she firmly refuses, wanting to achieve her dream of opening a restaurant in Los Angeles first. Meanwhile, Sree's mother is determined to find him a bride, putting Sree in a difficult spot. Sindhuja's father invites them to his dance show, but Sree's mother falls ill, causing Sree to arrive late, upsetting Sindhuja. At the show, he pressures her about marriage, citing his mother's health. When Sindhuja doesn't budge, Sree decides to break up with her for his mother's sake and agrees to an arranged marriage.

The day before his wedding, Sindhuja visits Sree to say goodbye before leaving Chennai. They part ways with heavy hearts. On his wedding day, as Sindhuja's father drives her to the airport, he confesses his regret over not appreciating Sindhuja's mother's love before she died, urging Sindhuja not to make the same mistake. Suddenly, Sindhuja realizes she must stop the wedding and rushes back, only to find it's over. She leaves in tears.

Three years later, Sindhuja has successfully opened her dream restaurant. She later learns Sree is getting a divorce. Sindhuja's father visits Sree's parents, telling them about his daughter's love for Sree, while Sree's parents lament his failed marriage. It's revealed Sree's wife had an abortion out of revenge after an argument Sree won. Sree's mother comes to accept that happy live-in relationships can be better than unhappy marriages. Suddenly, Sree's parents and Sindhuja's father realize both Sree and Sindhuja have been missing for three days. The film ends with Sree and Sindhuja secretly having sex as their parents call them. Their mindsets have reversed: Sree now prefers a live-in relationship, while Sindhuja wants marriage.
