What Happens (Spoilers)

Okay, let's talk about how wild this movie gets! So, James, a 14-year-old, moves in with his grandfather Geppetto after his parents die. He makes friends with Zach and Michael, but Zach sadly passes away from cancer, and Michael moves away. Geppetto promises James he'll build a friend who won't leave him.

A year later, James is getting bullied at school by older students Trey and Logan. One night, James hears noises and finds Geppetto in the basement introducing him to Pinocchio, a wooden puppet whose nose grows when he lies. Geppetto explains he built Pinocchio to be James’s friend. James and Pinocchio become really close, like brothers. Pinocchio starts learning about humans and wants to become a real boy.

While James is at school, Pinocchio goes into the basement and meets a scary-looking wooden creature who calls herself his "Wood Mother." She tells Pinocchio he's just a puppet and needs human organs to become real. The next day, James takes Pinocchio to school, and Pinocchio accidentally causes a treadmill accident that kills James’s teacher in the gym. Later, James introduces Pinocchio to his friends Mia and Dudley.

On the way home, a drunk driver crashes into their taxi, and James ends up in the hospital. Remembering his Wood Mother’s words, Pinocchio sneaks into the drunk driver’s hospital room, rips off his skin, and takes out his organs to put into his own chest. When James gets home, he, Mia, and Dudley find Geppetto’s notes about his "failed works" in the basement. Meanwhile, Pinocchio tells his Wood Mother about the killing, and she's happy, introducing him to the Talking Cricket. The Cricket encourages Pinocchio to kill anyone who harms James, so they murder James's school dentist for her teeth.

James, Mia, and Dudley then watch old tapes showing Geppetto made other puppets before Pinocchio but destroyed them because he thought they weren't good enough for James. Realizing Pinocchio is on a killing spree, they try to warn Trey and Logan, who are next. Pinocchio arrives at Logan’s house, breaks his girlfriend Georgia's jaw with an axe, and the Cricket electrocutes her. Pinocchio then rips out Logan's tongue and eyes. At Trey’s house, Pinocchio kills his girlfriend Amanda, tears off her scalp, and murders Trey by impaling his skull with his growing nose.

Geppetto brings Pinocchio home and scolds him for the murders. Pinocchio realizes his Wood Mother and the Cricket tricked him, so he kills them both with a sledgehammer. James, Mia, and Dudley arrive just as Geppetto is about to destroy Pinocchio. Pinocchio asks how he came to life, and Geppetto reveals he used Zach's corpse, transferring his soul into the puppet! James tries to save Pinocchio, but Geppetto shoots Dudley dead and knocks James out. Geppetto then chases Mia, revealing he was an apprentice of a Dr. Arthur Gallup and is continuing experiments to bring dead children back to life. James stabs Geppetto, and Pinocchio holds him at gunpoint.

Pinocchio shoots at Geppetto but misses, hitting a panel that releases an aggressive wooden creature. This creature kills Geppetto as the house catches fire. James, Mia, and Pinocchio escape, promising to forget everything. Pinocchio then says he didn't enjoy killing people, and his nose grows again. In a post-credits scene, the Cricket is alive and recovers Geppetto’s corpse to resurrect him. So, it's not truly over!
