Okay, let's dive into the wild ride that is "Buddy." The story starts with a look back at "It's Buddy!", a children's TV show from 1999, hosted by Buddy, a magical unicorn, and Betty Bunny. There are also child actors Freddy, Wade, Josh, and Oliver, plus supporting characters like Mailman Miles and Nurse Nancy, and even talking objects like Mr. Mailbox and Couchy. Things take a dark turn when Buddy tries to get Josh to join a dance party, but Josh, who just wants to read his book, refuses. Suddenly, Josh disappears without a trace, only to be replaced by a new child named Hannah. Buddy just tells everyone Josh is traveling to Diamond City.

But Freddy isn't fooled. She finds Josh's bloodstained book in the trash and goes to Nurse Nancy, who promises to talk to Buddy. Big mistake. Freddy then sees Buddy brutally kill Nancy and even punch Clocky the Clock off the wall. Realizing the danger, Freddy convinces Wade, Hannah, and Oliver to escape to Diamond City inside Charlie the Train. Their escape is short-lived as Buddy kills Charlie. As Buddy fatally stabs Mailman Miles, the children manage to jump a fence with Strappy the Backpack and Mr. Mailbox – whose mouth Buddy had torn off after Mr. Mailbox saw Buddy kill Josh. In the chaos, Freddy accidentally drops Wade, and Buddy impales him with his horn.

Meanwhile, in the "real world," a woman named Grace hires a psychic to help her, her husband Ben, and their sons Timothy and Derek with a haunting. During the ritual, their TV turns on to an "It's Buddy!" episode. Grace becomes convinced she had a third child they can't remember, but Ben dismisses it. That night, Buddy literally emerges from the TV and pulls Grace into the show, where she takes over Nancy's role.

Back in "It's Buddy!", Freddy, Oliver, and Hannah start to realize they can't remember their lives before the show, though Freddy has some vague childhood memories. They meet elderly cowboy George and his foul-mouthed marionette, Willie, who have been hiding from Buddy for years because he killed a child who sang a rude version of the show's theme song. George and Willie give the children laced flower petals to eat. Freddy then hallucinates a maimed Wade blaming her for his death. The children pass out, and when they wake up, George and Willie are gone, having stolen Strappy.

Buddy finds George and kills him with an axe, then drowns Willie. He starts to rip Strappy apart to lure the children, but they arrive on bikes and save Strappy. They finally reach Diamond City, only to find it's just a miniature model. Buddy appears, embraces them, and the "episode" ends, resetting the series with new children, Tyler and Mailman Justin, replacing Wade and Miles. Freddy notices a cut on Grace's arm, and Grace recognizes Freddy as her missing daughter. Outside, the children antagonize Buddy by singing the rude theme song, causing him to mutate into a giant, monstrous form. He kills Tyler, Justin, Couchy, and Betty before attacking Freddy.

Grace sacrifices herself so Freddy, Oliver, Hannah, Strappy, and Mr. Mailbox can escape. Buddy pursues them down a well, severing parts of his own flesh to fit. The children hide in a shed full of weapons, but Buddy bursts in, kills Hannah, and swallows Oliver alive. Freddy escapes into a school hallway, and Buddy chases her until Strappy trips him, causing Buddy to fall directly onto Mr. Mailbox's post, killing him. Freddy finds a gymnasium with multiple televisions, all showing a real-world house with a child being absorbed into "It's Buddy!".

Freddy finds an empty house and bursts through one of the screens, emerging into a living room. She's devastated to realize Strappy and Mr. Mailbox have turned into lifeless objects. The father of the Spanish family whose house Freddy has landed in approaches her, asking who she is.
